The Chora of Croton, located in the modern region of Calabria, was founded as a major Greek colony in the late 8th century BC. ICA’s work in Croton began in 1983 with an intensive survey conducted with permission and encouragement of the Soprintendenza Archeologica della Calabria and the Ministero dei Beni Culturali. In keeping with ICA’s special interests, our work there has focused primarily on the populations of the Greek and Roman chora, but has included a full diachronic study of the occupied landscape, from the Neolithic period to the Middle Ages.
