Description
—— Letter to an unknown official from Fray Junípero Serra, in which he raises concerns about the civil administration of food rations, supplies, and salaries in the region. He explains that the rations provided to families of blacksmiths and carpenters brought from Mexico are insufficient or less than regulations specify, providing specific cases. He highlights the lack of meat, butter, and other provisions. The author pleads for equal allowances for both men and women, and if necessary, the ability to buy provisions on credit, which they are currently not allowed to do. He also mentions the mishandling of cows assigned to the missions and the failure of local officials to follow orders instructing them to hand them over to Serra to care for them. In conclusion, the author asks for intervention to address the supply issues. 2 f. (4 p.) (1774-07-19) |
