Description	Please be sure to read the License for viewing and use of these files. These data accompany the article, Kappelman, J. et al. 2024. Adaptive foraging behaviors in the Horn of Africa during Toba supereruption. Nature (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41586-024-07208-3) with the URL link found in the Supplementary Information. The files include 3D scans for 13 projectile points from Shinfa Metama 1 (SM1), a Middle Stone Age site dated to ~74 ka located in northwestern Ethiopia. On each page of the large pdf file, "Kappelman SI SM1 Points 3D File Photos Drawings.pdf," the 3D scans of the objects are interactive. Open the file in Adobe Reader. The grey image of the point at left is an interactive 3D object. Place the cursor on the point and left click the mouse to activate. In a few seconds, a menu bar will open above the image. Place the cursor on the point, hold down the left mouse button to grab the point, and move the mouse around to rotate and turn, roll the scroll wheel to zoom in/out, and use the features of the menu to view cross-sections, etc. Photographs of the dorsal and ventral surfaces are included at upper right of each page, with drawings shown at lower right. See Supplementary Table 6 for measurements and full descriptions. See the ‘Digital photography, drawings, 3D scanning, and interactive 3D objects’ section of the Methods for additional information. Series	3D scans, photographs, and drawings of SM1 projectile points: The 3D scans of the points as interactive objects are available in the file entitled, "Kappelman SI SM1 Points 3D File Photos Drawings.pdf" This file also includes photographs and drawings of the projectile points. The 3D data sets of the 13 projectile points are supplied in the .ply file format. The .ply can be converted to the .stl file format for 3D printing.

Related Material	3D scanning. 3D scans of SM1 points were completed at the National Museum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with EinScan Pro HD and NextEngine scanners using their proprietary software. 3D objects. Interactive 3D objects of the SM1 points included in the file, "Kappelman SI SM1 Points 3D File Photos Drawings.pdf," were produced by saving the 3D scan file in the .ply file format, importing it into Blender 3.6 for reorientation, exporting as an .stl file format for import into MeshLab v2023.12, saving in the .u3d file format, composing the layout for the 3D objects, photos, drawings, and legends in Adobe Photoshop C5.1 Extended, saving as a .jpg file format and importing it and the 3D object in the .u3d file format into Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, and saving in the .pdf file format. The 3D scan can be viewed as a 3D interactive object with Adobe Reader. Digital photography. Digital photographs of the original fossils and chipped stone were taken against a generally dark background with a cm/mm scale bar using a 16MP or higher camera and imported into Adobe Photoshop C5.1 Extended at full resolution. The element was isolated from the background with the lasso tool and cut and pasted onto a solid dark colour background layer. Figures were composed in Microsoft Office Professional 2019 Plus PowerPoint. Drawings. The ventral, dorsal, and edge aspects of the points were photographed at 90° to the object with an iPad Pro 10.5” using its 12 MP camera, and a cm scale was included in the photograph. The photograph was imported into Sketchbook version 6.0.3, and the features of the object were drawn as an overlay to the photograph. This was an iterative process that required shifting back and forth between the actual point and the drawing to ensure that all features were correctly documented. Drawings were exported in the .png file format. Work was completed in the National Museum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
